This That And The Other Thing.

As promised  - With apologies as some of the questions deserved prompt answers.

John H - Who gave us many detailed reports during his stay, asked when the black caddis fell. I don't know. Saw the day after day up river migration, saw a couple of days of the caddis milling around over the water but not on the water, and did get to experience one night with some spent black caddis on the water, (that night the fish ate my black caddis fly like cotton candy).

Ann wanted to know what BR stood for. Sorry Ann, thought someone jumped in and answered, (they explained what EB was). BR is the Delaware from Junction Pool down to Callicoon. It's also often referred to as the Main Stem.

Harry Luke asked about identifying flies. The best way is to collect them in a small container, take them home and compare them to the pictures in Weamer's book Pocket Guide to New York Hatches. May flies appear on the river in an orderly sequence and when you are familiar with the order of things you learn which may flies are likely to be hatching at a certain time which makes identifying them much easier. Caddis follow their own sequence but aside from apple caddis and black caddis everyone seems to call them all tan caddis 'cause that's how they appear in the air. Anyone tying flies will be better served by catching caddis as they fly by on their up stream mating flights and tying them to match the colors they actually are.

Have to go with Edo's Rays on the Silhouettes' On The Shade. Sorry Don K and ED S. you can't win them all but Herman's  Hermits and the Platters didn't didn't win the prize.

Rich T. What is a Zane Gray moment? Watched a Video of the Dooley being tied - it's clearly beyond my skill level.

Dennis - Isos are ubiquitous and will appear throughout the river system, however, their numbers have been significantly reduced in the coldest portions of the WB and UEB. The BK EB and lower BR are the best places to find them.

Steve, Barking Dog is the NY State launch site at the bottom of the NO Kill section of the WB. Follow Airport road past the Deposit Men's Club and you will see it off to your right just past the factory.

Hackelhouse -  I stayed at Ruth and Roy Ryan's green camp on Partridge Hill Road with my parents every Memorial Day and Fourth of July weekend from the time I was 10 until I was out of college. Loved fishing the West Canada. Those trips have a special place in my memory bank.
