This And That (And Other Things).

Where to begin?  Absent a natural disaster, (a hundred year flood?), there will be fresh sweet corn at Shaffer's stand until into November. They stagger the plantings, some is ripe now while some corn stalks are no more than a foot high.

Amy - You may well be the first fisherwoman to comment on the blog, and for that I thank you. By now you have probably made your decision, but for what it's worth; the current rainy conditions have given us both sulfurs and olives, sulfurs are most likely to be found above Oquaga Creek, olives are likely to be found throughout the entire WB. Debby, like many females, is next to impossible to predict and potentially dangerous. If she travels the predicted path, the system is likely to get about 1.6 inches of rain, Oquaga will rear it's head and fishing will be restricted to the WB above Oquaga's muddy mouth. If Debby veers slightly east, the Delaware System will be spared and all fisherpersons should have a great weekend, if, however, Debby meanders westward a few miles, those present in the immediate area may be privileged to witness a flood seen only once in a lifetime. Please let us know if you make the trip.

The fishing - Please understand, I only want to get out of the "Sulfur Zone" because I've fished it five days a week since mid June, not because it isn't any good. The best sulfur hatches are now above Oquaga, the fish can almost unerringly tell the real sulfurs from what you are throwing, but there are bugs, fish, and a chance to catch them that is somewhat better than the chance of winning the lottery.

Fished the middle section mid-day and had olives, both small, (pseudo), and  medium size. For about forty-five minutes the fish liked my olives, then the rise forms changes and they ignored them completely. Went up river and fished the evening sulfurs above Oquaga. Neither the bugs nor the fish got going until late but when they did there were fish up everywhere. Shared the pool with a couple of anglers, everyone caught fish although it was quite a while before I saw the "young guy" get his net out.
