Stay Home And Work On Your ARK.

Unless you just like to get away and watch it rain, stay home. Today was supposed to produce .12 of an inch of rain. Based on what I saw, and fished in, the decimal point should have been moved to the right one place. The ground is saturated, the tribs are gushing muddy water and the worst, (predicted 2.00 to 3.00 inches of rain), is yet to come. Scheduled my hair cut for 4:00 to coincide with the "dead period" between the mid-day and evening hatches. Arrived in Deposit at 12:30 to find it raining quite hard, with neither bugs nor risers to be seen. Killed time in the Troutfitter with several Troutfitter regulars and watched the rain come down. It let up about three and the sulfurs put their umbrella's away and hatched. The fish fed, and Mike and I suited up and had at 'em. Was late to my last haircut appointment so I kept close track of the time and was in the Unisex shop at 3:47. Told Vicki that the bugs were hatching and the fish were feeding. She asked, "What...

This And That (And Other Things).

Where to begin?  Absent a natural disaster, (a hundred year flood?), there will be fresh sweet corn at Shaffer's stand until into November. They stagger the plantings, some is ripe now while some corn stalks are no more than a foot high. Amy - You may well be the first fisherwoman to comment on the blog, and for that I thank you. By now you have probably made your decision, but for what it's worth; the current rainy conditions have given us both sulfurs and olives, sulfurs are most likely to be found above Oquaga Creek, olives are likely to be found throughout the entire WB. Debby, like many females, is next to impossible to predict and potentially dangerous. If she travels the predicted path, the system is likely to get about 1.6 inches of rain, Oquaga will rear it's head and fishing will be restricted to the WB above Oquaga's muddy mouth. If Debby veers slightly east, the Delaware System will be spared and all fisherpersons should have a great weekend, if, however, ...

At Least I Mowed The Lawn.

With the lawn soaking wet again this morning I put on my rubber shoes and went out and pruned the broken branches off the apple tree, picked the ripe tomatoes, and climbed the ladder and threw down hundreds of peaches that I wasn't able to reach six weeks ago and which were now breaking branches on the freestone peach trees. Was wringing wet again after less than two hours work. Came in and cleaned up, then sat down and continued my efforts to upgrade my olive box.  Stopped at 12:00 and left for the Troutfitter Inn where I had reserved a room to watch the USA vs Germany semi final soccer game. Missed the first 30 minutes as the game started at noon, (swear I read that this one was at 12:30). Didn't matter, the first, and only, score didn't come until the 30 minute overtime period.  The fishing - There's just nothing to say. The rest of my day? - After the game, I drove up to the red barn where there were TMA'sTC, sulfurs on the water, and rising fish. Drove all th...

Done Too Soon.

Trip down this morning was marred by the sight of two dead fawns and a small red fox along the way. Three of mother nature's most beautiful creatures snuffed out by automobiles before thay had a chance to take a deep breath of life on this earth we share.   Arrived in Deposit a little early for the sulfurs and got a chance to talk to Dave who said that Mondays and Tuesdays have not been as busy the last two weeks and that if I don't lay down on the bed and don't use the Loo, there will probably be a room available for me, at a reasonable price, to watch the USA vs Germany women's soccer reprise. The fishing - Like most of us fishing during the week, the sulfurs hatch is in gentle decline. Fished below Oquaga  and never put on a sulfur dun. Yes there were sulfurs, but there were so few hatching that the fish never did pay any attention to them. Will try to do a drive by of the water above Oquaga tomorrow prior to the soccer game and  report on what I see. ...
