Who wants to go to an orgy anyway?

Had a day worth talking about, at least if you are interested in the comings and goings of  our local wildlife. Was in the BR this morning wondering where the bugs were and when they were going to show up (they didn't) when I spotted something swimming across the river at me.  Turned out to be a squirrel.  I think one of the Jims saw one last year.  Andy B's glowing report of an upriver fish catching bonanza, which was backed up by similar  accounts from two Troutfitter regulars sent me up river about 2:00 to see if I too could partake in a fish catching orgy (at 79 it's the only orgy I'm likely to participate in).  On the way, in downtown Hancock, in mid afternoon, a doe was waiting patiently to cross the road just  before the rte. 17 bridge  underpass where you get on 17 heading west to Deposit. Thought to myself at the time, another yearling and it isn't going to end well. What didn't end well was the afternoon fishing, no bugs and no risers.  Pulled the plu

Wind knots and tailing loops.

Dennis has been waiting patiently for the answer(s) to his casting questions so here goes.  First of all I am self taught as a fly caster. Back when I started in the mid fifties there were no guides or casting instructors (or videos on how to avoid wind knots and tailing loops either for that matter).  Corrections to my casting stroke came slowly and without much thought on my part.  It was almost as if my right arm and the rod got together and said "Lets help this guy out, he's never going to get it on his own". When a guide 20 years ago told me to make a reach cast I had no idea what he was talking about.  Not much has changed since then.  It's the best explanation I can give before saying I don't even know what a check cast is.  What I can tell you is that my right arm and the good old Winston IM6 work in wondrous ways to often create drag free, on target casts that leave the rest of me in awe of what just happened. With regard to  my positioning before castin

At least I'll have time to tie some new flies.

Back home waiting for carpet installers to show up.  After almost forty years even I had to admit the wall to wall carpet needed replacing in the den.  An air conditioner installer is also coming to give us a quote on a mini split system for the den and upstairs bedroom. Busy day. Was able to drive down early Saturday morning and fish a long stretch of the lower WB that I make a point of hitting at least once a year.  Was on the river about 9:30 and didn't get back to the car until 3:00.  It wasn't because it was so good that I stayed so long, but because I was sure the bugs would get going, they never did. Saw but three fish rise at anything but my fly the whole time I was there.  Most surprising thing was the absence of boats. Usually by about noon the boats start to show up. I saw two go by me in the five hours I fished. The evening fishing (also on the lower WB) was condensed into an hour and  half. Sulfurs came first then a short but concentrated dose of spinners. When the
