A celebratory PM was duly consumed.
I could do a few rants today, they would be justified, but it upsets Jean and they serve no purpose. Just don't tell me NYCEP didn't say if the project is a go, we will max the releases from all three Delaware River Reservoirs on June first ( I asked the question), and (forgive me Mrs. Haskins for what I assume is a run on sentence) please don't tell me you didn't know you shouldn't fish for trout in water over 70 degrees or that you didn't know the water was 74 degrees where you were fishing. Amen.
Another hot one with one more to go. If someone can conjure up even a cloudy day or better yet a gentle all day rain, sign him up. April went by dry as a desert bone save for the two day rain event that put the BR up over 20,000 cfs. May never got a meaningful rain and the total for the month was less than an inch. The current heat wave has put the freestones up into the seventies and without the max reservoir releases the fish have no doubt begun their migration to thermal refuges. Next week looks better temp wise but we need a few all day soaking rains.
The fishing - Came back to earth after yesterdays six hour fishing bonanza. Tried two places on the freestones in the morning that I haven't fished in years. Both had fish. The first place was much changed since I last fished it, there were very few bugs and risers. Caught one riser and was refused by another. The second place I have never fished with the water this low. There was a good cornuta hatch and some risers, most of which would have nothing to do with my offerings. What I did discover was that there is a small channel that runs along the far bank (which I've never been able to reach) and that big browns lay along that bank eating whatever drifts by. Was refused by the first two but got even when the third and fourth bank sippers each inhaled my cornuta. The first was 20.25", the second was 20.5", hard to complain about the fishing with a pair of fish like that.
Have a jumbled schedule coming up, another 90+ degree day forecast for tomorrow, a grandsons lacrosse game on Saturday, and a Doctors appointment on Tuesday. If I'm fishing I'll post, if I'm home I'll try to answer questions. The fishing is a challenge right now, but I've had a very good week and you can to. Be on the water early in the morning and from 8:00 'til dark. Get away from the crowds when and where water temps permit, fish small and cast carefully.
