In Search Of Perfection

You may not be aware, but we at Angler 119's Delaware River Fishing Reports, spare no expense to insure our readers always get the best, most up to date, river fishing information, presented in the clearest and most readable form possible. In furtherance of this goal we added a grammarian to our staff this year for the purpose of ferreting out any words that may have been used inappropriately by our staff writers.

The addition paid off immediately when the new staffer discovered the missing "s" in descent in "The first trip down" which was just the second post of the year.

The April 24th post, "Too much of nothin' - - " was also upgraded when our ever watchful grammarian converted "peaked" into "peeked" which is what I did when looking into the blue bird house.

Alas, nothing is perfect, and I, as the author of the May 9th "Sometimes the fish won't leave you alone" offering, must take exception to the grammarian's proposed change of "tooks" to "takes". When I typed tooks, I did so with a smile, knowing full well that it was grammatically incorrect, but felt that "tooks" rhymed with "looks" which preceded it in the sentence and it made for a kind of catchy read. I think "tooks" should get a stet.

Thankfully, another quality issue was laid to rest by Ed Smith's performance in Friday's, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" page, where without hesitation he produced a big yellow taxi to transport Joni Mitchell and me around in a search for more eagerly feeding fish.

For those new to the reports, Ed has performed the associate editor task of identifying all references to long forgotten songs of the 50's, 60's, and 70's which may appear randomly in the titles to blog pages. For years on end he has done his work flawlessly even though he is quite young for the job.

The problem with Ed's work came to our attention when he inexplicitly failed to recognize Dion and the Belmont's '61 hit "Tell me Why?", offering up "Tell me why do birds sing?" and making vague references to the possibility of me being a "Swiftie", which at least gave my granddaughters a good laugh. Ed, it's good to have you back on your game, stillborn dun's notwithstanding).
