Something to grouse about.

You couldn't have ordered up a more perfect day.  Beautiful bright sunshine with temp in the low 70's and a light breeze that  I would have killed for just last week on the bonefish flats.

Bought supplies and crammed the car full of "stuff" for the camp.  Arrived about 12:30 and found everything in good order. Turned on the well pump and filled the system with no apparent leaks.  Fridge and hot water heater seemed appreciative of having the winter off as they again went to work with no complaints.

The lawn mower is heading for the transfer station tomorrow so I charged up the battery, drained the oil and drove it up onto the trailer. It was 2:00 when I made a sandwich and headed out to check on the river system.

It seemed that everyone was taking advantage of the weather as there were both drift boats and wade fishermen  in most of the pools that were visible from the road.  Stopped at numerous lookout spots (without my binoculars that were left in camp) and never saw a rise.  Did see some of the  micro caddis that hatch this time of year and a handful of little stone flies.  There were a couple of spots where the water hit 50 yesterday and probably more today.  It's still very early but if the warm, dry weather continues, there will be fishable bugs sometime within the next couple of weeks.

Was on my way back to camp with six water jugs that I filled at a spring over by the Beaverkill when a partridge stepped out onto route 97 in front of me.  Would have gone by easily if she didn't suddenly decide she needed to get to the other side of the road.  Hit the brakes and sent all six one gallon plastic water jugs flying. The only one that lost it's snap on cap was the one that flew between the two front seats.  Was able to grab it before it sprayed more than a third of it's contents on the dashboard, front window and my cell phone (which seems to be ok).

If you're wondering, the grouse waited until the very last second and then flew safely into the woods.
