Please Tell Us Where The Action Is.

Thought I'd been Kimmeled this morning when the report hadn't appeared by 11:00am. The Troutfitter management said that an attempt was made to post it at 7:30am but apparently a wrong button was pushed. I'd prefer to think that the Troutfitter phone rang off the hook with room cancellations and demands that the report be posted in timely fashion.

The Syracuse vs Duke football game - If anyone had any doubts about who the most important player on a football team is, they were laid to rest by today's game. With their starting quarterback out for the season, the Syracuse offense ran up a total of three points, while Duke, led by their $4,000,000.00 a year quarterback scored 38.

The bugs - One thing is very clear. Olives love cold water and overcast, rainy days. With the temperature of the Cannonsville release water continuing to climb, the air temperatures, (both day and night), well above normal, and the sun doing it's very best to give the trout an excuse for not rising, the bugs were no where to be seen.

The fishing - There are two parts to this story and since I talked to no one on the river, I could use help. It's the weekend and I'm usually not here, but it's the last weekend in September, fishing has been tough all year and I was amazed by the number of fishermen. From Shehawken down to Buckingham it was crowded with cars, pickups with trailers and fishermen. I wanted to just get out of town, but David at the Troutfitter had rolled out the pavilion TV so that I could watch commercials and Duke touchdowns. At half time, I walked out on the Town bridge and saw a pod of fish rising just downstream. At the end of the game I saw another pod of fish rising in the shadow of the route 17 bridge, (got one of them). Drove downstream, careful to stay above the boats and when I saw but one car at the lower gamelands, I parked and walked in. Got five fish to come to my fly, three ate and I landed a 10 incher and a 9 incher. With nothing but white foam visible on the entire pool at 6:15pm, I reeled it in and headed further downstream and was glad I did. There weren't many bugs, but the fish were hungry, hooked five and landed four  between 12 and 16 inches in the forty five minutes I fished.

From the time I started until I reeled it in, I saw but one fisherman within a quarter mile of me and one boat that rowed by on the other side of an island. If anyone was here and fished the "hot spots" please tell us what I missed.
